Servicing and repairing UPVC doors
Increasingly we are spending more and more time repairing UPVC doors. Around 90% of doors in the UK are now UPVC or composite and there are about three hundred and twenty mechanism types to consider.
Whilst manufacturers give a year’s warranty with the mechanism and cylinder, most mechanisms last for about 10 years at least.
You can get longer out of them if you get them serviced and maintained however inevitably many develop faults or fail at some point.
Whilst gearbox mechanisms are often the first to cause problems, general wear and tear can occur also with handles, euro cylinders, letterboxes and jammed/broken keys.
When it comes to repairing UPVC doors, the most common problems we face are as follows:
Door handles drop and get loose. Normally we have to either fix or replace the mechanism or handles if these have broken.
Key will not turn in cylinder. Fix or replace faulty cylinder.
Key just spins in cylinder. Fix or replace faulty cylinder.
Handles lift up with the door open but will not go up when the door closed. Door out of line with keeps and requires adjustment.
Door catches on frame. Realign door or adjust hinges.
