We’re often contacted by homeowners who have moved to a new house and have been unable to master the existing alarm system. Either previous occupants have not provided sufficient instructions or there is concern about changing the current codes.
Indeed we also find that alarms have been neglected by existing homeowners, who then become more security conscious or have insurance requirements which mean they now need to use the existing alarm regularly.
Even more problematic is when customers’ alarms go off and they are unable to switch them off. For example the other night we were called out to a family that had just moved into a new home and had set the alarm. However it had then gone off and they couldn’t silence it. Without the engineers code, we had to power down the alarm sytem correctly to put the neighbours out of their misery.
Without full details of an alarm, these situations can lead to difficult research into previous users and/or engineers to get the correct codes.
Where problems occur we can help arrive at the most appropriate solution, including powering down, assessing code requirements and if necessary carrying out the necessary work to replace key code systems for complete security and peace of mind. We also recommend a service of your alarm system to try and avoid the type of nocturnal issues we had to resolve recently.
So if you’ve inherited a system you are unsure of or don’t have all the information you might require, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we can make sure you don’t get caught out in the future.
