First thing is to change the locks on all external doors, and if you have upvc or composite doors you should consider upgrading your euro cylinders to anti snap or even 3 star cylinders.
You simply can’t know who may have keys to your house no matter how much you trust the previous occupants and its a small price to pay for peace of mind. UPVC doors are also susceptible to break ins without upgraded locks.
You also need to change the code on your alarm system. If you have a old alarm or do not have one at all, you may want to put a wireless system in that you can up load onto your phone so you can see if and when your alarm activates. This is a lot cheaper than gettign or maintaining a monitored alarm system.
You can also fit a smart door bell that can also be up loaded onto your phone, allowing you to see exactly who is calling, day or night.
You should also check that your home insurance is in order, particularly checking that the securtiy systems you have in place match the insurers requirments to avoid any claim queries or refusals should the worst happen. It is also important tot re-evaluate your contents and make sure that it truly reflects your current belongings and includes any valuable itmes that may need to be outlined individually.
