Police have issued a warning to residents after several recent burglaries where thieves opened the front door by gaining access via the letter box.
Thieves used a piece of copper tubing to open the door of one house from the outside during the latest burglary on Wednesday night.
They stole mobile phones, car keys and two vehicles from the driveway. Police urged people to use dead locks on their front doors and keep possessions out of sight.
A crime reduction advisor said “this type of burglary is such an easy thing to prevent. It is important to note that, where the point of entry is through the letterbox, insurance companies are questioning whether the house is properly and have been reluctant to pay”
